Or maybe it's just an ordinary day, and the neighbor's cat decided to jump on your head and scratch your hair out, thinking it is an overgrown rat?

Both circumstances could use a first aid kit. It's a new release with rave reviews and it deserves each and everyone. The book was made mostly for thrills and doesn't go too far into character development, but it does have some grand action and suspense. It's worth the fifteen bucks for the book and will keep you entertained for a while.

You can order this book on Amazon or Barns and Noble. It surprisingly doesn't have a Wikipedia entry, so there isn't much information about the book other than customer reviews. Just trust me on this - order it!

That's all from me this time. If the answer isn't everyone, then that will explain why we have forgetful people on this planet. I love to do lists, as my simple mammalian brain cannot handle the pure untapped power of remembering to do something. Therefore I write what must be done on a piece of paper. Brilliant idea right? Glad I thought of it ;)

Here's how to make a to do list.
1) Separate your list into two sections: Long term and absolutely must be done right freakin'n now. You can rename that last section "today" if you want.

2) Toss what you need to do in each section.

3) Make sure everything in the "today" column is possible. It's easy to put a goal such as "start and finish War and Peace" in that column, but is that possible at all? Not really. Instead, just put "start reading War and Peace." Other examples would be "buy nails for anti-zombie barricade project" and "get tools read for disassembling bike".

4) Make sure all the long term goals have 'checkpoints', days when one small part of the project gets completed. Then you can't put it all off until the end.

5) List all the things you get done under the "what I did today" section. It makes you feel better looking at what you did as compared to what's left.

-UDG

BUSY BUSY BUSY

I'm so busy I barely have time to look at funny things!

I can has cheese burger for all those cute animal moments.

Megatokyo - where the Hell is Piro?

And how can I not laugh at this?

It's been a while since I did a zombie rant... here's something to satiate that hunger. It was held on back order due to publication issues, but arrived today. I finished it in half an hour. It's a great comic to get into and makes for a very well accepted birthday gift for all zombie fans.

It's a bit ironic that it arrived 28 weeks later, seeing as 28 Weeks Later is now in theaters. It looks like a spectacular sequel and I cannot wait for the DVD release. I'll just have to go see it in theaters... again... to satiate my appetite for a good zombie film. Oh yes, and projects:

Status:
1) Survival Guide section two is done with the third edit, moving on to section three (defending your home).
2) Fiction novel is doing well also. This is all without images, with the final edit in progress too.

The Sickness (as it's being called) is going to be my zombie novel, which will be published right here on the Undead Dead Blog. The outline is coming along well, as I have finished 2 sections and am working on the third.

I've also started a purely fictional and humorous style novel. I'll see how it works out, but expect it to be random and funny.

As for ZF (still being worked on, yes, it's alive), I'm trying to go for a late summer release. As for you, fellow reader, might I suggest the following.

1) Go see Hot Fuzz, starring Simon Pegg and written by Edgar Write.

2) Bring Pita Chips.

3) Enjoy.

4) Continue to be paranoid toward the zombie threat to all life on earth as we know it.

Spring Break WOOOO!!!

Spring normally sucks for me, but with a below average pollen count, there's no need to break out the antihemtimen... antihistem... anti... the allergy medication. The projects are web based and involve graphic art/XHTML set up. I'm wondering if I should turn this into a business... well, maybe a side job for extra cash. This is taking up some of my hobby time, but I enjoy doing such tasks for my friends. Especially when they involve creating badass banners in FireWorks.

The survival guide is getting neglected... but that will change soon. Massive progress is being done on my fiction/mystery novel now that I'm working with an outline. I don't know why I didn't make this before, it's that easy.

And to top it all off, I'm learning Java. It's a long term project, but I hope that by understanding Java I can learn other compiler languages, namely C++, with greater ease.

And this is all combined with ZF and RE to make one massive pile of work to do. Snow is a powerful enemy and has caused the death of many wayward Americans. So, today's rant is all about being prepared for a snowy bug out.

First, some special editions need to be made to your bug out bag. Hand warmers, fire starting material (lighters, matches etc), blankets, and a poncho should be included. Most of those items should have been included before hand anyway. Clothing additions should include: one warm hat which covers the ears, one pair of earmuffs (which won't be in the way of the hat), one pair of ski goggles (if you live in a very stormy area), a scarf, 2 pairs of gloves, and of course, a heavy coat.

Remember that the more layers worn means the more warmth you will feel. Wear one shirt, one long sleeve shirt, one fleece or sweater, and then the coat. Also keep fire starting materials handy, namely in a pocket.

As for preparing your car - make sure the jumper cables are somewhere in the car. Also include two blankets, some water, and a granola bar for a snack. This should keep someone going through a wintry night when the car stalls on the highway. If planning for a longer bug out, add more food. Don't forget signal flares!

-UDG

The Power of Censorship

The Undead Dead Blog has been censored by the now communist Z-Ramm for "the greater good" of the Internets. While this is very inconvenient, it did inspire me to talk about the power of censorship, especially when used during an outbreak of zombies (or another unnatural disaster).

Our fellow brothers and sisters in China, North Korea, Cuba, and some parts of the middle east do not have the freedom which the West takes for granted*. Their television and radios are all owned or funded by the government. The newspapers and even the trash magazines are owned by the government. Even the great internet is blocked by massive country wide proxy settings. Simply put, there is a constant media blackout within every single one of these countries. They do not let anyone know what is going on, other than what they want you to know.

Intelligence and knowledge are the number on tools to use when fighting the undead (or any natural disaster). Knowing where the enemy is, how large their number is, and how far the infection has spread, or even if the government has imposed martial law is critical to survival. Knowledge of what is happening in other countries is also necessary.

Government censorship can create massive obstacles. It is up to YOU the reader, to understand what is true, and what is a lie. Look farther into stories. Try to understand what is not being said, ask more questions - and if these questions aren't answered, understand what this could mean. Figure out the source of the media. Where are the reporters physically? Are they in the area, outside of it? Are the reporters FAR outside of the area? What else?!

This may sound paranoid, but it's just good detective work. No work has been done on the survival guide for about a week, and ZF is still incomplete. It's been a hard month for Z-Ramm and I. Don't take it personally.

There is some news from RERPG. Recently, the shoutbox service has decided to crash and burn. With no other alternative, Z-Ramm hooked the website up with what's called "Cbox". Basically, it's a shoutbox alternative. This makes 2 services which have been discontinued on RERPG so far.

In the way of zombies: Check out "Hellsing", an anime found Here at ---- It's loaded with undead goodies. So what have I been up to lately? Well, time for yet another round of updates!

1) College work still sucks!
2) Survival Guide is done with it's first (of 3) edit processes, and totals 53 pages.
3) ZF is being worked on slowly, yet steadily. Certain sections will be launched before/after the New Years.
4) I want to play with my wii... but certain people say it's rather dangerous.

In the way of zombies... yeah, still nothing. Every thing's going into the survival guide/short fictions/attempt at a fiction novel. However, I will offer a random tip.

When defending the home, your first priority should always be security. Not to say all my days aren't odd, but this was just weird, even for me.

So the day started with me curled up in bed, nice and warm. At 8:47 my mother knocks on the door and says "I think (Z-Ramm) called."

So I roll over and say "mrh?"

She walks away, checks the numbers and then says "Yeah, it was (Z-Ramm)".

So I roll over again and fall out of bed, thinking "Oh shit did someone die?!"

As you can tell I never get calls.

I figure instead of calling, I'll just boot up MSN/Trilly and ask what the f*ck was going on. Sure enough, Z-Mann was online... long story short, he got 2 Wii vouchers.

One hour on line through the freezing cold later:

[11:24:43] * UndeadDeadGuy wants to play wii boxing.
[11:24:45] Z-Ramm: I'm a bit busy right now. Believe it or not, I have work to do too. bbl
[11:24:49] UndeadDeadGuy: You lie.
[11:27:55] * Z-Ramm is back
[11:28:06] UndeadDeadGuy: lol
[11:28:06] Z-Ramm: I should have used the Out message instead.
[11:28:17] UndeadDeadGuy: so
[11:28:19] Z-Ramm: anyway
[11:28:19] UndeadDeadGuy: WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
[11:28:20] Z-Ramm: WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIi
[11:28:22] UndeadDeadGuy: WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
[11:28:22] Z-Ramm: ....
[11:28:23] Z-Ramm: wow
[11:28:24] Z-Ramm: what timing

I got a wii!

Some updates

First, a delayed Happy Thanksgiving!

Now, some updates:

1) Survival Guide is now in it's first editing phase, it's now at 52 pages. It's a great skill to learn and costs little money. You can talk with anyone world wide if you have the right license, and in a time of emergency (IE, zombie attack) HAM radio has shown to be the most reliable form of communication. Give it a look see on Google if you're interested.

In other news: Survival Guide just reached 50 pages and I promise you will see it, eventually. ZF has been thrown on the back burner because of College and studies, so don't expect anything new and fancy about ZF for the rest of the month, maybe into December (but don't worry, it's going to be done by December 31 at latest. Look forward to a New Year's Eve/Day launch.)

RERPG has been doing well lately, last year the site was so slow Z and I were considering making an announcement about the communities' activity, making it 'partially closed'. Now if they just made one for MSN I would be set.

Some updates, before I rant:
1) Work on Project ZF begins tomorrow, opening day by the end of October!
2) UDG Survival Guide, 32 pages and counting.
3) This Blog is getting a face lift sometime soon.

And onto the rant...

Fix.

How many things do you fix in a day? How many in a week? A month? How many of those things do you care about?

There are two things you can fix. The physical, and the emotional.

You can also argue that you fix dogs, but that's damn gross and should be outlawed. You inconsiderate bastards.

Anyway, there are two things you can fix, the physical the the emotional. Sometimes when you fix something, it's a minor repair. Just a scratch on the wood, a rusted bolt needing replacement, or someone upset you. Other times, the object is totaled, the entire frame has rusted, and you can have a nervous breakdown.

This brings me to the subject of maintenance.

We often neglect things in our life which come under this category. Maybe it's the engine light on your car, or it's time to get a new Television. Physical things need maintenance.

But so do emotional things.

You need to take care of yourself. Too much work leads to breakdowns and mood swings. Know when to back off from your limit and just relax. Easier said than done... but it's necessary. I work myself until I burn out, and it's not fun. 50% of Americans, people considered world wide to be the laziest, don't take their vacation time. Instead, they work on.

This leads to things breaking. This means they need to be fixed.

The next time you take a test, go to work, or need to get a project done, remember that you need time for yourself. Set up some 'Me' time, away from family or friends. Or, if you really like family and friends, get something together. Go to the movies, go to the mall.

Just enjoy yourself. We're going to try and get it done in October, but I swear it will be done. And there will be fun stuff on there.

Signing off for now,
-UDG

Ode to Simon

Did I ever mention I'm a Simon Pegg fan? For FBI tracking purposes, I won't link to it, but DAMN this is funny. I wonder if Bush will get a blog...

Next up on my list of random stuff is the current book I am reading: The Grapple by Harry Turtledove, great book if you enjoy alternate history scifi. No zombies though.

And last but not least, Dead Rising is out for Xbox360. Give it a look see.

Now for an actual blog post:

It's been a while since I've done the safe spots series... So here's a new one:

Safe Spots: The Farm House

We all remember Night of the Living Dead (and if you don't, shame on you). A bunch of random people seek refuge in a farm house, only to be devoured due to social unrest and a lack of trust. But what if they did cooperate? How safe is a farm house? Let's find out...

The Farm House. A building reminiscent of the first days of American settlement. It's been a constant ever since big city buildups. A nice, big house on farmable land, well away from big towns and cities. People live quiet lives on their property. Until the dead come and knock on their door.

Because a farmhouse is so far away from cities, the people who live in them commonly stock up on food or grow their own stuff right outside. Food won't be a problem, at least in the short term. Long term food supplies will mean farming the land, which can put you at risk if your home is besieged by thousands of zombies.

But chances are there won't be so many zombies. Houses are few and far between out in the Midwest and great plains areas, where most of the farms are. Most farm houses are far away from town, so as long as you don't do anything stupid, zombies may pass you by without even knowing you're there.

Most farm house owners have guns because they live so far from police departments. That, and sometimes they have to deal with bears which come onto their property. This is a great plus.

Another great feature of the modern farm house is the hurricane shelter. These are small rooms with iron doors and sides, which you could run into if the house is swarmed. So long as you have food, staying in here won't be a problem. Most even have plumbing.

The only problem with a farm house is a lack of barricading supplies. Farm houses are constructed with many windows, to let in natural light. Finding enough wood to barricade the house will be a problem, so you will have to use furniture and tables to keep the place secure.

So the building itself is secure and good option for staying on the defense. Bad news is, the owners will most likely be taking advantage of everything I listed before you get there. Be careful when you try to get into a farm house, the owner may shoot you! And remember, raiding and theft are still crimes, even in the PAW.

-UDG

RE RPG 3 is OPEN

After eight hours of hard thread making work, RE RPG 3.0 is open for business. I would like to thank Kitty for being there the whole time.

Z and I awoke in the wee hours of the morning, about 10am or so. From then on we worked our a$$es off until 6:00 when the project was finally completed. Along the way we moaned, whined, lost connections and bashed heads, but we made it.

We have so many new things we want to show you... but instead of explaining them here, just log into RE RPG and read up on them. We have them announced so you can't miss them.

I put so much time, sweat, and tears into making this (literally too. You try staying up until 3 AM making area descriptions in a house with no Air Conditioning at night.) and I have to say this is the best we've ever done. Z made the site look awesome and I finally managed to make a halfway decent story line.

So enjoy guys. See you Sunday on RE RPG. When we get these workers clad in their orange vests and such we usually just let them be. They're here to fix stuff, and we respect that.

Today, in their infinite wisdom, they decided to fix something which ain't broke.

They put up eight signs which scream, in bold red letters "No parking on Fridays, 9-12pm, except on holidays." Now I can tolerate this kind of thing. I'm an able bodied person, I can go park somewhere else. The problem is the eight signs are on 3 different roads, and the only option for parking is the main street in town, which has no parking. Not to mention it's half a block from where I live.

Ok, minor inconvenience, sucks to be me, right? The problem doesn't end there. My father's business (a somewhat humble dentist office) is host to very elderly patients, most of which have walkers or canes. It is now nigh impossible for them to get to the office without breaking a hip.

And now, this quiet little street is in an uproar. Already talk of a petition is being circulated, and I'm ready to break out the massive sound system and blast 60's anti-establishment music at our small town hall.

And so begins my struggle against 'the Man.'

-UDG

Your family and your Bug Out Plan

Whilst buying a million more 'do it yourself' manuals (and some bandages) my family and I started a discussion about what would happen if god forbid we had to leave in a moments notice. I reigned supreme considering I had a Bug Out Bag, a Bug Out Location, and I even timed myself on getting my BOB together (5 minutes on the dot baby).

First up on our list of criticism is my father. He will take less than three seconds. He grabs the hard box, chock full of legal document goodies, and he's happy.

Next is reliable mother. She says she's going to grab the baby videos and pictures (IE black mail), and the credit cards, and medication. Ok, 2 out of three are usable. Total time, probably 10-20 minutes.

Last is sister. God help us. She is going to grab all her shoes. All her high heels. All her bags. All her Abercrombie stuff. We won't have room for her in the car. Time? Oh forget it. At least 2 hours. We have come to the conclusion that we will have to beat her over the head just so she can come with us.

So I am in shock, and also horrified. I'm ready to go but everyone else I need to take isn't. If the sh*t hits the fan, I am dead.

A few minutes later, we realize we need to take grandma. I threw up.

I think the moral of today's blog post is, make sure everyone you that you love and will be taking with you has at least some (vague) idea of what they will bring, what they need to bring, and how long it would take for them to get it all.

-UDG

MAKE SOME NOISE PEOPLE!

Hello. I must become one with my inner Zen. Or in this case, mindless zombie. I guess I've just been getting buggy, considering all my friends have left town, I am running out of things to do, and I am being stalked by the evil zombie Scra'la'la'la which is trying to digest my very SOUL-

Er, scratch that last part.

I have done almost everything I can do (within the realm of sense) for project ZF. It's Shiny now. I can't do much more.

Resident Evil RPG is getting into another lull. Not much I can do about that except keep on posting.

I just hope people will start making noise... some time soon.

-UDG

Update on Project ZF. It's shiny!

Z-Ramm is going to be gone for a month, which means I get to hold down the fort at Resident Evil RPG. Reminds me of the good 'ol days ...

undeaddeadguy harkens back to ye olden days of Resident Evil RPG...

"BACK! BACK YE NOOBS! Or I shall smote the with hot oil and zombies! Back I say! Kitty, get the guns!"

Yes, certainly those were the days.

On to Project ZF. Ya know, screw that. Let's look at project three first.

Before Z went away, he posted the graphics and logo for the new site on his testing board (which I am so NOT revealing). Needless to say they are impressive and Resident Evil looking. They even made some of my zombie cohorts smile. It's a beautiful return to the dark red and urban gray color scheme we had in the beginning, except 300x better.

I am also keeping my end of the bargain up. I have the layout ready to go, all the new areas and bosses are ready to be placed, as are new features. Half of these even I didn't see coming.

Ok I let enough slip on project three. How about some goodies on Project ZF?

I'd like to let everyone know project ZF is 75% completed. We have but to finish a few... minor problems and then BAM! Launch day. While I can't speak for Z-Ramm's 'contributions' I can say:

It will be entertaining

It will have zombies

It will have Resident Evil and other zombie movie/game data

It will look like a work of art

It will be, above all else, cool.

And that's all I can say for now.

-UDG

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://udgblog.blogspot.com/2006/06/update-on-project-zf-its-shiny.html' title='Update on Project ZF. They all have their own representation in movies and novels, but they do get stale after a while.

This is why I like Resident Evil. The boys at Capcom make monsters that you gawk at and wonder how they could possible have created such a thing. Take Nemesis or Tyrant, or even the G-Mutation, nothing like that has ever been conceived. This is the same ideal I try to strive for in my monster creations. Something new, something fresh.

This is why it pisses me off when some guys makes a character, says he's bulky as the hulk and goes around yelling "I'M THE JUGGERNAUT, B****!"

A monster is more than muscles and unchecked fury. I monster can think. Yes, startling information, I know. But it is true. Any of the above monsters can think at least on a limited scale. They understand how things work, they respond to different stimuli, and they know how to hunt. This means your monster should be more than brawn and balls.

Why don't we critique at one of my favorite monsters as an example? Let's use Gargoyle. He's not the most original character, but he has it where it counts. He is only slightly more intelligent than a dog, but he stalks, takes joy in killing prey, and he even scares people for the fun of it.

When you have your monster running around you should consider atmosphere. You do not want to have a nine foot tall dinosaur man running through a field of flowers on a sunny day. That isn't scary. Have him stay in the shadows, or make an ambush.

In the end I'm just trying to say, be creative.

-UDG

We need to Talk, Mr. Anderson

We need to talk, Paul Anderson.

We need to talk about that horrible murder you committed when you made the Resident Evil movies.

Now, they're fun stuff and all, and I like zombies, but for the love of all things related to Capcom... why did you MURDER the story line. It wasn't even murder. It was more like performing fine surgery with a rusted spoon in a back alley with a fake college degree!

So here's what I thought sucked, Mr. Anderson:

In resident evil, you did ok. Nice spooks and surprises, and even though it had nothing to do with the actual video game it was... Ok. Now I wouldn't have minded this change except you promoted the movie as being video game accurate. You lied to the fanbase! The least you could have done was thrown in a Tyrant battle. However, because you did not use any element from the video game series, you could have saved yourself by saying this was something that happened 'on the side' and was completely irrelevant to the real RE story.

You botched that chance in Resident Evil 2. Your portrayal of Jill Valentine was horrible. She looked like a thug Italian wearing a mini skirt. Carlos, for the love of all things zombie, had the wrong accent! HE'S FROM SOUTH AMERICA DAMMIT. Nicholai was supposed to be an enemy, not a martyr. You forgot the other 2 forms Nemesis takes, the clock tower, you completely destroyed Sherry and William Birkin's roles in the story, and what was with that black guy?! In a horror movie you do not need comedy relief!

And worse yet, you make more sequels. As we speak RE3 is being filmed. God have mercy on Capcom.

Speaking of which, rumor has it the God of Zombies, George Romero, was supposed to write and direct the first movie. Here's a tip for you Capcom:

NEVER SAY NO TO THE INVENTOR OF A GENRE.

Yea...

Well, ok. I can hear Z-Ramm yelling 'GET SUPER SMASH BROTHERS' now...

Safe Spots: Sewer System

Time for another Safe Spots entry! Today, our topic is the subterranean environment of the city, the sewer system.

Sewers:
The sewer system is a vast network of large pipes and drains which allows all wastes to be taken to a sewage treatment plant. Some argue that the sewer system would be a perfect means of transportation during a zombie outbreak. After all, who would use the sewers?

The answer to that question: Only an insane man hell bent on his own death. The sewer crawls with vermin, disease, and worse yet poison gas. You probably think I am exaggerating the bit about poison gas, but ladies and gentlemen, I am NOT. Gas lines for cities run through the sewer systems and if they are not maintained leak
causing explosions and other biohazards.

Sewers (because of their design) also echo, which means gunfire and footsteps are more audible than if you were traveling on the surface. So, if one trudges loudly or is forced to fire, zombies will hear you from miles around.

So, STAY OUT OF THE SEWERS.

Safe Spots: skyscraper Review

The skyscraper, a metallic object which glistens in the skyline of many famous cities, such an New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. They are marvels of modern engineering, graceful, magnificent beasts that tower over our daily workplaces . They are symbols of bold ideas and the will to create.

But in a zombie outbreak, how does the sky scraper fair?

Skyscrapers are gigantic buildings used for offices and management of large corporations. They have modern security systems, elevators, stairwells, and security. All of which is rendered useless by a zombie attack.

Skyscrapers are situated in cities, where the undead population will be at its largest. The lobby area is covered with gigantic windows, which are not of the industrial strength quality. Every window is a potential entrance for the undead and it is impossible to bar them with the materials on hand. These windows are a serious hazard to the building's defense.

The modern security system will be rendered useless. A camera can stop a thief, but won't even bother a zombie. Motion sensors will do nothing more than alert you to a zombies presence, it will not stop them.

A skyscraper also has no supplies. No food, no medicine, and no guns. There is nothing here worth saving.

In conclusion, stay away from skyscrapers!

Jack of all Trades

Well, I've been jumping around the zombie community as of late, registering on the popular Zombie Squad forum, watching as my forum comes close to the 500 memmber count, and finding new stuff on Amazon to buy, such as the ever growing WALKING DEAD comic.

I've found many discussions and interesting people on my internet trek's, and one that caught my eye today was was a discussion of how much you know.

Now I'm sure that you, the zombie enthusiast, is saying 'Hey, I've seen every Romero/Fulci gore flick EVER!!! I'm an NRA gun nut to boot! I know everything I need to know about surviving the zombie apocalypse.'

But that's the problem I found. Everyone is planning on being the supreme commando leader or soldier type. The guy in the movie with the biggest shotgun or sharpest sword. However, what will this matter if you don't know how to do other things, such as navigating through woods, knowing how to treat a wound, or even building a house. These are essential skills for surviving a zombie attack.

So, my audience, today I ask you to learn. In your spare time, find a survival guide and read it. Maybe buy an issue of Popular Mechanics and find out how to work your basic car engine. Maybe even try going on a hike with the local scout troops to see what they know. Heck, try and find a Scout Book. The American Eagle Scout book holds information from basic first aid to tying a knot and even erecting a decent tent.

Remember, my dear friends, that knowledge is power! Learn as much as you can and never rely on brute strength alone.

-UDG

Not that I like to brag...

The picture speaks for itself.

A shout out and another lesson.

Before I continue my lesson on surviving the attack, I'd like to give a shout out to Day by Day Armageddon, a zombie novel in the form of a journal, written by a soldier serving in Iraq.

Anyway, back to SURVIVING THE ATTACK!

In the first few moments of the zombie onslaught, humanity will attempt to hold their positions. This will be met with moderate success. Some areas will not see many zombies, and they will be safe for the rest of the outbreak. However, most areas will be swarmed by zombies. It is always a great idea to have a 'backup' or 'fall back' position, as it is extremely likely your first position will be over run. Also, remember to have your Bug Out Bag handy (this is why you made one after all).

If/When your hideout is over run, you will need to 'Bug Out'. Before you run however, you must plan your destination! Here are some tips on planning where to go for your secondary home:

Can it be defensible?

Are there supplies in the building or immediate area?

Are strangers and looters likely to target this building?

How close is it to your present location, and can you make it to this area in less than one day?

When traveling, do NOT follow the refugees! You must remember that humanity is food, and wherever the food goes, so does the predator! Try to avoid large groups and areas that will have frequent travel by other people.

If you follow these tips, you might just live through the outbreak. Good Luck and stay vigilant!

-UDG

Surviving the Attack

A nearby groan woke me from my sleep inside of the dimly light church. A few other survivors where with me, a few of them I was quite attached to. It was Lawrence who spotted them first. He had been out exploring when he too heard the groans. His news was not good... the nearby Buckly mall was over run. Almost 1,000 survivors had stayed there and by my math at least half of them must have been killed.

The groans where outside now. I peered through the barricade holes and saw about twenty of them. I added wood to the barricade and went back to sleep, hopping they would pass us over...

They didn't.

I awoke a few hours later to see my comrades being eaten by the zombies, a few fighting back. I immediately put more barricades up when I heard my cell phone ring; it was Lawrence. His message read:

Saint D's Over run: Moved to NT building 1 East

***
That is a dramatcized version of what happened to me while playing Urban Dead, and I had to say it's depiction of a zombie attack is quite accurate. I'm taking a small break from my Safe Spots series to go over a very special event which I shall call: Surviving the Onslaught.

When the zombies rise and the ghouls overrun the police, you will be on your own. Your home may become compromised and your supplies may run out, so how can you make a stand against the undead?!

Probably the best advice to give is to be inconspicuous. Zombies will pass over houses that they think do not have humans inside them. Dead give aways to your presence include light and sound. Also, the more people you have in your party, the more likely you are to be targeted by the undead because of the noise pollution. So, stay down and stay quiet!

End Part one.

-UDG

Review: Monster Island

Alright, listen up.

The Book : Monster Island
The Author: David Wellington
The Website: www.brokentype.com/monster

The Review: This odd little book I found while playing Urban Dead (see previous reviews) is a great read! Our numerous projects are coming to fruition, Z and I are making ideas out the Ying Yang, and your resident zombie fanatic is stepping up the notch on his creativity skills as well as his web related skills.

Expect to see more of us sooner rather than later.

-UDG

Safe Spots part 4

Back to the undead threat.

In my last entry I covered the reliable fire station, now we will probe the defensive qualities of the industrial factory.

A normal industrial factory is a very large building which uses an automated assembly line to produce a finely made product. That product can be anything from canned goods to cars. Now an average factory has alot of entrances so the employees can get where they need to be alot faster. There is also a large loading/unloading dock for big semi trucks. This creates some problems right off the bat.

Nomally, these entrances will be secure with heavy doors, and the loading dock will be covered with iron shutters, so that won't be a problem. What will be the problem is the main entrance, which is 'visitor friendly', meaning it has alot of window. However, a factory is very large and is ifleld with all sorts of hallways. It is possible, in a group, to isolate the main entrance and block any paths leading into the building from the main entrance.

A factory can also give you some goodies during your stay. A car factory might give you a host of vehicals to use during an escape. A food manufacturing plant could give you enough food stuffs to last for months. A fire arms factory... well we all know how much fun that would be.

So, the industrial factory is a decent place to stay... provided you have a sizeable group of survivors.

Getting Past Step One

Well, Z and I are workign on three projects now, two very closely entwined, the third is just plain fun. Unfortunately I can't tell you that because it's a secret.

Project 3 is also coming along well, Z is making things so fast I can't count them, and I am contributing my... unique view of things to the project.

Well I have said all I can without saying too much, now if you don't mind Z is cracking away with the whip...

-UDG

Safe Spots part 3

So, back to what's important: avoiding the throngs of living dead which shall eventually inherit the earth.

Our safe spot for today is: The Grocery Store

There are two types of grocery stores: The ones owned by big time corperations such as ShopRight and A&P, and the smaller personal grocery stores.

While the large stores may look tempting (They probably have enough food for the rest of your natural life) most commercial grocery stores advertise their food by installing numerous windows. These windows are not the same riot proof glass found at malls and other areas. So, unless you want to become zombie chow, stay away from the commercial stores.

However, most personal food stores (especially inner city) have installed iron shutters to prevent riot damage. These stores can be a blessing. Not only do they have enough food to last a small family two months, but the windows are easily coverable via the steel shutters.

However, most suburban personal grocery stores do not come with the feature. So, in my expert opinion, don't make your stand against the zombie hordes in a grocery store. Instead, loot it and run. Very, very fast.

-UDG

Food of the Gods!

[Rant]

I for one am a man who enjoys food. After the 2.0 upgrade to RESIDENT EVIL RPG we felt… content with ourselves. Z made some fabulous codes and I had put in a couple hard days worth of work into getting those new areas up to snuff. And after we saw it come to fruition, we felt… good. Especially when we received 50 members in 2 weeks. That just sweetened the victory.

But then, after watching our members play with our creation… we had yet more ideas. Z and I are working on secret projects right now to be implemented this summer. The two main projects are ‘Project 3’ and ‘Project REF’ (well Z calls it ‘RF’. But hey, this is my blog, not his.) Project 3 will, to make things short, much more enjoyable on the website. I won’t say how, but you can trust me on this.

Project REF is… well, it’s a lot of things. It’s extensive, long term, funny, serious, but most of all, COOL. Not to mention Z and I could actually make MONEY off of this.

There are also some side projects… one of my favorites is an ‘Ask the Admins’ style project. However, these may not be implemented if the first two projects take too much time (shouldn’t for me though, so expect more than two surprises).

Keep reading our blogs and checking the website for news updates. The traditional Fire Station is constructed of brick, has heavy doors, all sorts of emergency supplies. Not to mention the good old fire ax, which is a formidable anti-zombie weapon. Add to the list of nice things that all firemen have medical training and the station has those really cool fire engines which would make great escape vehicals.

So how does the Fire Station rank on 'the list'? Surprisingly well for a federal building. The Fire Station will most likely be empty during an outbreak due to the numerous fires which shall occur during the zombie onslaught. This leaves the building free for the taking. The defenses are also formidable. Most fire stations have only 2 entrences (sans the garage doors) which would make it incredibly easy to defend. That and since all fire stations have two levels, a survivor could easily cordon off the second floor and enjoy all of the material stored there.

The best thing of all though is no one would think to come here. Just imagine: it's the 'zombocalypse' and a horde of flesh eating monsters are roaming the streets. A fire department probably wouldn't come to mind for a 'safe place'

So, inconclusion, a Fire Station ranks a four out of five on 'the list'.

The 'Safe Spots' series, part 1.

In any disaster (most especially a zombie outbreak) there are certain areas which are safe, and other areas which, simply put, are not. What could be safer than the basin of justice which we rely on in everyday life? Not to mention it has armed police officers, a SWAT team, an armory of weapons just begging to be used, a medical center, and food. So a place like this sounds like heaven for a zombie apocalypse or just about any disaster, right?

WRONG.

A police station should be on your list of 'where not to go'. And why is this? Simply because everyone will be flocking here. How many people live in your town or city? A hundred? A thousand? More? Now imagine just half of them trying to get to the police department. The roadways would be clogged and the police would be overwhelmed. And, since this is where the food will be heading, it will undoubtably attract the attention of zombies.

Now what about after the outbreak, various riots, etc etc? Well, police departments still won't be a good place to visit. All of the persons protecting the building will either be zombified or biligerant, and the place will be targeted by looters for the various weapons.

So, avoid the police department. You don't need their weapons or protection, and it's a health hazard.

-UDG

My good friend BOB

We all know about the Bug Out Bag (BOB) and how it is supposed to be there, waiting in your basement with all sorts of survival supplies in it. However, we are all human, and we also have a lot of things dear to us. So, I started to wonder what would be the number one thing I would take with me. And then what number two is, and number three and four… it’s harder than you think. Of course we all have that number one super item which we could just not live without. To me, it’s my laptop; it does everything I could possibly want.
But what’s next? There are things I really love but could do without. However, not having them would be a real pain. There are my comics, my DVDs, my IPod, pictures, letters and all other assortments of other items!

So I then decided which one was more important. My IPod is cool, but all of the music for it is already on my laptop, which I am already taking. Add to the fact that listening to music while running from zombies isn’t always a good thing. Next came the comics. They’re good for silent entertainment, but they can take up a lot of room. Plus, they aren’t very durable. DVDs had the same problem as comics except they weren’t silent, not to mention during a class 2 outbreak I could just loot and FYE for all my favorite CDs and DVDs.

So I came to the conclusion that the number one thing I would take with me is my comics. Hey, it might not be a 9mm but it does keep me entertained. Now why don’t you go decide what’s your number two item?
 -UDG

Zombie command center

So, back to the point of zombies.

One can argue I am a bit 'obssesed' with the entire zombie thing. But really, it's more of a 'I want to be prepared' type of obsession.

Which is exactly why I am now building a Zombie Command Center in my basement area.

Hey, don't look at me like that, it's cool.

Well, at least it could be cool. As every command center needs, it would have a radio, a police scanner, a plethora of weaponry, maps of every possible area, and food to last about 80 years of nuclear winter. Unfortunately my supplies have been limited to a box of cheeze-its and chex mix, the internet, and a little league metallic baseball bat.

Some command center eh?

But seriously, if one were to combat the 'Zombacalypse', wouldn't the private citizen need a gigantic command center with steel reinforced doors and all aformentioned material?

Well unless I win the lotto I can keep on dreaming the dream...

-UDG

Also, it has come to my attention that some of my blog viewers are now playing Urban Dead. Not only does it have a forum with 2,700 members, but it is host to videos, merchandise, and the members even host seminars. (The Google map was also a cool feature.)

The video content ranges from 'educational' to humerous. One such video shows you how to assemble a 'Bug Out Bag' and another (my personal favorite) has a bunch of GI Joe action figures running around shooting zombies to techno music.

But don't be fooled, Zombie Squad is a real organization based around disaster preparedness. If you take a look at their upcoming events, almost three quarters of them are for disaster relief funds or foundations.

So, if you have time, check out Zombie Squad, you won't regret it.

-UDG

Brains... I need brains... or Urban Dead.

A month ago I was browsing through random web pages in Google when I stumbled across a rather fun game, known as Urband Dead.

I am now an Urban Dead addict. Can someone help me?

First it was my human character, a military class player. I went into the city of Malton shooting and looting like no tommorrow. It was fun, it took little time, and for some reason I avoided death like how Bill Gates avoids poverty.

But it wasn't enough.

I needed more. About a week later I made a zombie character (named undeaddeadguy). I now know why zombies are zombies.

Because it's damn fun.

You run around randomly attacking anything that moves, you don't need to worry about food, medicine, or ammo, and best of all, you can't die because you're already dead.

While attacking a low level newb which was unlucky enough to be stuck outside a building, I came upon a thought: is it possible zombies have this much fun? Is this the reason why zombies are zombies? Because hunting down and rendering the flesh of humans is so much more fun then going on item hunts and then killing zombies?

Well, the thought didn't last very long when the newbie woke up and started assaulting me. I ran like an undead girl to the nearest gathering of zeds and logged out.

So, my fellow living dead enthusiests, I guess one must discover on their own if it is more fun to be a zombie than to be a human... at least in Urban Dead.

-UDG

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://udgblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/brains-i-need-brains-or-urban-dead.html' title='Brains... You know, those things in Romero flicks that feast upon the flesh of the living and have a tendancy to go 'grah'.

At undeaddead blog, we talk, discuss, and make notes on the living dead. We talk about their appearences in the Media, debate senarios of zombified invasion, and other such undead things.

And by 'we' I mean me and my completely unbaised view of the undead. caugh George Romero is God caugh.

This doesn't mean, however, that we don't laugh here at undeaddead blog. I make my own zombie comics, poetry, and short stories. I am also willing to accept anything done by fans so long as it is not profane or in bad taste.

Now if you don't mind, I need to attend to this thing I call 'real life'. I'll be back to add things later, probably when I finish the website.
